Mormonism

TESTIFYING TO THE MORMONS

Mormons are not easy to evangelize, but they can be brought to Christ.  Bringing them to the feet of Jesus will require a special effort.  They generally do not recognize a need and do not see themselves as sinners (they question the Bible); a special ability will be necessary.  However, the Holy Spirit gives us the strategies. Christians of the New Testament had problems like us.  They faced religious people that were apparently satisfied (Acts 8:25; Romans 10:1-3.)  Additional visits will probably be necessary.  Do not be discouraged if the person you are dealing with is not responsive during the first visit.  A Mormon is very difficult to win during the first visit.

I. One must use Biblical methods.  Do not confuse timidity with meekness. One can be gentle and at the same time specific…

(A) Peter and John were determined (Acts 4:13).
(B) Paul was brave (Acts 9:27-29; 17:2,10-17; 18:4,26; 19:8-9).

2. They used secular authorities (Acts 17:28; Titus 1:12). Let’s use Mormon authorities.

3. Have in mind: that Mormons use our same terms but with their own meanings.  Do not consent that this issue invalidates your participation.  The resurrection-salvation; God- exalted man; Gospel-Mormonism; the Eternal immortality of life; damned - repressed (as repressing a current); Heaven, a place where all go (except for a few) to different heavens prepared for practically all.

REMEMBER:

We should be wise but humble.  Humility is not a sign of weakness, but it opposes pride.

1.   Do not be defensive.  Do not begin by proving you are a missionary.  Nor try to gain one of their missionaries first.  It is not necessary for you to explain the difficult passages in the Bible.  Your desire to explain the Urim and Thummim, or the staff of Judah and the staff of Joseph, the baptism for the dead, etc. will not contribute to gain a Mormon.  The fact that we have explained those doctrines in this writing is in order to instruct you, not with the purpose of instructing Mormons through arguments.  These topics can be answered but they are not pertinent and they distract you from your goal…presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

2.  Take the initiative!  Maintain it!  Do not allow changing the subject.

3. What is the most important topic?  Not the temples, nor the prophets, nor priesthood, nor the authority, etc.  None of those: God is the most important one!

4. ASK: What do you believe about God?  Challenge him/her to be committed.  Wake them up.

A. ASK: Do you accept the statement: "As Man is, God once was... and as God is, man may become”.  This statement is not found in any of the writings regarding how to evangelize a Mormon and only the people that have investigated this organization and their beliefs, are familiarized with this terminology.  (It will surprise him, and he will be amazed that you know this.)

B. Does God have a body, fingers, etc?  (Make a pause among each question for an affirmative answer).

C. Is God married?

D.  Does He have parents?
E.    Does He change?
F.    Is there more than one God?

5.  Then say, "What would happen if I show you that the Book of Mormon does not teach those things?  Would you be bothered?  Would you be in agreement with me that something is wrong if I show you?  (There is not a great opportunity if the person is not willing to accept the truth although this has been exposed, but at least you tried to share that truth)

6.  Show him (write these passages in the front of the Book of Mormon)- Do not let that person change the subject.  Keep him in the same discussion.  Do not discuss other topics. Avoid any chance to go to those arguments or dark passages of the Bible.  KEEP THE INITIATIVE.  Be OFFENSIVE (Paul did it)

7. PASSAGES

A. ONLY ONE GOD (Alma 11:26-31/ 2 Nephi 31:21

B. GOD DOES NOT CHANGE (keep the initiative) For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing?  And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles.  Mormon 9:9-11/ Moroni 8:18:  For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from ball eternity to all eternity.

C. GOD IS (it was not) SPIRIT (the Bible says this only once, John 4:24.  But the Book of Mormon declares it a lot of times) 1 Nephi. 3: 20   1 Nephi. 13: 12   Mosiah 15: 5

“And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffered temptation, and yielded not to the temptation, but suffered himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.” Mosiah 15:5

“And Ammon said: This is God. And Ammon said unto him again: Believest thou that this Great Spirit, who is God, created all things which are in heaven and in the earth?”  Alma 18:28

“And the king said: Is God that aGreat Spirit that brought our fathers out of the land of Jerusalem?

10 And Aaron said unto him: Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things both in heaven and in earth. Believes thou this?

11 11 And he said: Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things, and I desire that ye should tell me concerning all these things, and I will believe thy words.”  Alma 22:9-11

II.  NOW, It is evident that there is something wrong!  Mormonism and the Book of Mormon do not agree!" In fact, they differ largely.

1. Jesus said: ""I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
" (John 14:6) The prophet is not the way, a restoration is not the way, Mormonism is not the way, priesthood is not it, Jesus said:   "I AM THE WAY!"

But, at the contrary, the Mormon doctrine of nowadays teaches:

·        · There are three gods, distinct and separated who take care of our planet,

·        · That two of them have bodies and once were men,

·        · And that they gained the right of being God through faithful obedience to the Mormon Gospel.
